Jo Daviess County is in the northwestern corner of Illinois bordering Wisconsin and Iowa. It is part of the Driftless Area (land that was not covered or pushed down by glaciers) and known for scenic valley views and rolling farmland. Charles Mound, near Scales Mound and approximately a quarter of a mile from Wisconsin, is the highest natural point in the state and on privately owned farmland. The owners allow public access periodically from June through September.
